Legacy of Ra: Megaways Bonus Buy Slot (Blueprint Gaming)

Legacy of Ra: Megaways Slot Game

If you are familiar with Megaways slots, the first thing you might notice about Legacy of Ra: Megaways is the drastically lower advertised maximum number of Megaways. While many Megaways slots proudly announce their 117,649x maximum possible ways to win, Blueprint has stepped this down to just 15,625x for this game.

Update

Just after creating this review, and before we could create the bonus video, we noticed that Blueprint Gaming have seemingly removed this game from their portfolio. We’re not sure why they did this, but we will update this post if we find out.

I didn’t immediately assume this was a bad thing, though, as it suggests that there will be some significant differences under the hood this time around. Legacy of Ra was an evolution of Book of Ra, one of the most popular slots in its day, so Legacy of Ra: Megaways has a solid lineage to live up to. Let’s take a look, and see how they did!

Legacy of Ra: Megaways Overview

When the introduction screen promises up to fifty free spins, the fact this isn’t just another Megaways slot is further underscored. I appreciate the fact they have tried to keep much of the feel of the original Legacy of Ra and even Book of Ra intact here, and the visual styling is precisely as you would expect from this series.

Spinning the Reels for the First Time

The explorer, still looking very much like Indiana Jones, as the top paying symbol as usual in the Ra games, but unlike the original book of Ra, a full line of him – which requires six in this game, not five – pays out just 25x your stake.

While it might sound a little disappointing to see 25x your stake as the biggest hit on the pay table, bear in mind that you can win on up to 15,625 pay ways at the same time in this game. The developer insists that this means you can win up to 50,000x your stake on each spin, but I think you would be more than happy to get close to that on just one single spin in reality!

Legacy of Ra: Megaways Free Spins Feature

Hitting three scatter symbols is enough to start the feature in Legacy of Ra, which means it is a little easier than most Megaways games, which require a minimum of four scatter symbols. You’ll receive ten free spins for the minimum of three scatters, which increases to 15, 25, or even 50 free spins for hitting all six at the same time.

At the beginning of the feature, one symbol is chosen to be the special symbol for the duration of your free spins. This feature works precisely the same way as in the other games in this franchise, but is a significant departure from the multiplier-based free spin rounds found in almost every other Megaways slot.

It was a brave decision on Blueprint’s part to remove the automatically ascending multiplier from Legacy of Ra: Megaways in favor of trying something new, but it’s a decision I commend them for. Being able to win a massive fifty free spins makes a nice change, too, although I didn’t manage more than four scatters myself in nearly two hours of play.

Legacy of Ra: Megaways Bonus Buy Feature

Purchasing the feature allows you to dive straight into the free spins without waiting for the scatters to drop onto the reels naturally. You can still hit four or more scatters when using the bonus buy feature, but of course, you will see just three land on most occasions.

The cost of using this option is high at 100x your current stake, and more often than not, I lost nearly all of my stake whenever I used this feature. In the end, I stuck to just playing the game normally and waiting for the scatters to land, as I found I was hitting three scatters reasonably often anyway, and didn’t end up feeling so cheated by paying out 100x my stake this way.

Legacy of Ra: Megaways – Our Verdict

Blueprint has done a fantastic job here of evolving the original Legacy of Ra in some exciting ways, rather than just using the standard Megaways template and using the popularity of the Ra games in the hope of bringing in some easy, quick cash.

The result is a slot that feels like a Book of Ra sequel and doesn’t feel like just another generic Megaways game. To me, this is an excellent thing, and I really enjoyed my time playing this one. Find more games from this supplier here.
