Temple of Treasure: Megaways Slot Game with Bonus Buy Feature
Another day, another Megaways slot game from Blueprint Gaming. What could they have up their sleeves this time to separate Temple of Treasure: Megaways from their existing Megaways games? Once again, it’s another gimmick with the free spins feature, so if you only want to see the differences between this game and other Megaways titles, you could skip straight to the bonus buy feature now.
Temple of Treasure: Megaways Overview
Blueprint is evidently doing well from their Megaways slots, as they are currently paying Big Time Gaming license fees for no less than 28 such games. Some of these slots have a secondary license attached to them, too, such as their “Deal or no Deal” or “Ricky and Morty” Megaways titles. If that doesn’t demonstrate just how wildly profitable online slots can be, I don’t know what does!
If you somehow don’t know much about Megaways slots, then I’ll refer you to our review on Vikings Unleashed: Megaways now so you can catch up on a few of the basics. Once you’re all caught up, come back to this review, and we’ll discuss what’s new in Temple of Treasure: Megaways.
Spinning the Reels for the First Time
Blueprint has clearly taken inspiration from several other games when creating Temple of Treasure: Megaways. The Aztec or Mayan style of slot has been popular for a long time now – Gonzo’s Quest was a hugely popular machine that started life as an online slot before working its way back into the land-based casino market. That’s backwards to how things usually work, and funnily enough, that game has also had a Megaways makeover recently too – but that’s a story for another day.
If you’ve played Bonanza or Extra Chilli, you already know how these Megaways slots work, how much you can expect to win, and that it’s really all about the free spins feature with its “unlimited” multiplier. If you haven’t played those games, you’ve probably at least already read our review of Vikings Unleashed, as mentioned previously, so what new things can I tell you regarding this game? Let’s talk about that free spins feature.
Free Spins Feature
Hitting four or more scatter symbols awards the free spins round, and once again, Blueprint Gaming has made this the place where they differentiate Temple of Treasure: Megaways from their other Megaways slots. I guess it must be far cheaper to work out a few variations to the bonus round than actually changing the main pay table and other things about how a slot works.
In this game, the various free spins options have different numbers of guaranteed Megaways attached. You can opt to play fifteen free spins that are guaranteed to have 324 Megaways, or give up two-thirds of those spins to be sure of seeing 10,000 Megaways on each of your five remaining free spins.
My initial response to this is, “that’s a terrible deal!” – considering every spin has a chance of having 117,649 Megaways anyway, what’s so great about the guarantee of 10,000? I don’t know exactly how the math breaks down, but having a guarantee of 10,000 Megaways landing on the screen rather than 324 suggests that you should have something like 30x more chances of hitting a winning spin.
As you are only giving up 66% of your free spins for this 30x improvement in potential winnings, perhaps it isn’t such a lousy deal after all? It’s tricky to work out, I suspect pretty deliberately – and the RTP of each option isn’t easy to find online. There’s also a mystery choice option, which can combine the 15 free spins with the guarantee of 10,000 Megaways. Just remember, this can go the other way, too – you can just as easily end up with five free spins with just 324 Megaways as well.
Bonus Buy Feature
Purchasing the free spins feature is the quickest way to see what is unique about Temple of Treasure: Megaways. Still, despite spending roughly an hour playing the game, I found it challenging to work out if I felt it was a good deal paying 100x my stake for any of the four options on offer.

Temple of Treasure: Megaways – Our Verdict
If you scour slots and casino review sites, it’s relatively easy to determine that Temple of Treasure: Megaways isn’t all that popular with players. It’s not hard to see why – there are already so many other Megaways slots, and the only unique feature of this one is extremely difficult to evaluate.
For that reason, I’d suggest sticking with one of Blueprint’s other options, such as Vikings Unleashed, where at least you know the RTP of each of the different free spin options.
